Anderson Park District Board of Park Commissioners Appoints Mike Smith as Executive Director
The Anderson Park District Board of Park Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Smith as Executive Director. The Board approved the appointment during its May 12, 2026, meeting.
Mr. Smith brings more than 30 years of parks and recreation experience to the role. He has served as Interim Executive Director since January 1, 2026, and previously held the position of Operations Manager since 2007.
In his role as Operations Manager, Mr. Smith oversaw the management and operations of more than 500 acres of parkland and multiple facilities. He led a team of professionals focused on customer service and operational excellence. He also directed the planning, design, and construction of capital projects, helping ensure quality results while maximizing taxpayer resources for lasting community benefit.
Mr. Smith began his career with the Anderson Park District in 1993 and has since advanced through multiple leadership roles, bringing deep institutional knowledge and a strong understanding of community needs.
“Mike’s decades of leadership, operational expertise, and commitment to the community make him exceptionally qualified to lead the Anderson Park District into the future,” said Board President Richard Shelley.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Smith and his family founded Goshen Warrior Packs in 2015, a nonprofit organization that provides weekly food assistance to more than 100 students.
Mr. Smith holds the Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) designation from the National Recreation and Park Association, the highest credential in the parks and recreation profession.
“I appreciate the trust the Board of Park Commissioners has placed in me and am honored to serve as Executive Director of the Anderson Park District,” said Mr. Smith. “I look forward to working with our staff and community to continue providing quality parks, facilities, and programs for the residents of Anderson Township.”
