Funding Your Park System
The Anderson Hills Community Council petitioned the Anderson Township Trustees in 1970 to form a park district. The Anderson Park District was created by referendum in 1975 under Section 511 of the Ohio Revised Code for the explicit purpose of providing parks to serve the recreational needs of the residents of Anderson Township.
The Anderson Park District began operating in 1976. Initial funding was provided by inside millage.
The first APD tax levy passed in 1980. The APD has operated continuously on a voter-approved, 1.9 mill, ten-year tax levy since 1992. The APD typically seeks replacement of its operating tax levy during presidential elections two years prior to expiration to ensure uninterrupted operation.
The first APD capital tax levy passed in 2023. The 1.0 mill, 25-year tax levy is dedicated to improvement projects in the parks focused on the 6 Ps: Paths, Potties, Parking, Playgrounds, Pickleball, and Playability.
The park district works hard to seek alternative funding sources to supplement your tax dollars. Examples of alternative funding sources include grants, fees for programs and events, cash, in-kind gifts, and field user fees. Your tax dollars help to purchase land, develop current facilities, and provide ongoing maintenance to your parks, available every day of the year for your benefit and enjoyment!
