Acquisition
In January 2003, a committee of interested citizens asked the Board of Park Commissioners for an area where they could recreate off-leash with their pets.
The committee agreed to raise the funds since development and maintenance funds were not in the district’s budget. The APD agreed to dedicate a portion of Kellogg Park along with APD expertise, labor, equipment and management skills to organize the combined efforts of staff and volunteers. After many fundraisers, the Dog Field opened less than two years after the committee first petitioned the APD. The Dog Field at Kellogg Park has used no capital funding. Everything has been funded through the efforts of the volunteer citizen committee.
