This is a text description of the W.M. Johnson Hills Park trail map. The map is oriented with north at the top. The park is located at 7950 Bridle Road, with a main entrance on Bridle Road and a secondary entrance on Little Dry Run Road.
Overview & Key Landmarks:
The park is a nature preserve focused on hiking and disc golf. The trail system consists of four main loops of varying difficulty, which connect and overlap. Key landmarks include:
- MariMac Manor: Located just west of the main parking lot. An AED is located here.
- MariMac Manor Outdoor Classroom: Located directly west of (behind) MariMac Manor.
- Gelter Grove & Shelter: Located north of the parking lot and northeast of MariMac Manor. This is a central hub for several trails.
- Eagle’s Point Carriage House: Located in the southwestern part of the park.
- Disc Golf Course: The 18-hole course is split. The Front 9 is in the southwestern corner near the main entrance. The Back 9 is in the western part of the park, near the Eagle’s Point Carriage House.
Trail System Description:
The trails are best understood by starting from the central hub at Gelter Grove.
- From Gelter Grove:
- The Pasture Trail (0.5 miles, easy) is a small, short loop that begins and ends here.
- The Johnson Loop Trail (0.8 miles, intermediate) also begins here and circles a larger area, encompassing the Pasture Trail.
- The Bridle Trail (1.2 miles, intermediate) begins just northeast of the shelter, branching off from the Johnson Loop.
- Perimeter & Connections:
- Further north along the Johnson Loop, it connects with the Perimeter Trail (1.2 miles, intermediate). This trail hugs the northern and western boundaries of the park.
- Several connector trails link these main loops, including one between the Johnson Loop and Perimeter Trail, and one that creates a short loop within the Perimeter Trail itself in the southwest.
Bridges:
Two bridges are marked on the trails:
- One on the northern section of the Johnson Loop.
- One on the eastern leg of the Perimeter Trail.
